Merge individual film articles back into this one?
[edit]I'm inclined to merge the individual articles, Our Mr. Sun and Hemo the Magnificent, back into this article. I'll turn those articles into redirects. Please respond here if you object! Easchiff (talk) 04:28, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- At the time, I was thinking about raising an objection, but I figured a comment from an IP would carry little weight. So I thought I'd just expand the article instead. Two years later... I was finally inspired to work on Our Mr. Sun, after seeing the excellent addtions to this artilce. All of this got me thinking... perhaps the public relations office of Bell Labs (AT&T, Lucent, Alcatel... whoever) would be willing to grant permission for Wikipedia to use some high-resolution stills of this series if somebody were to send them a standard permission form letter? Perhaps a letter from a professor from a university would carry more weight? Just a thought I had running through my head. I'll go back to editing now. 64.40.54.127 (talk) 19:43, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- Now that there's some real content for Our Mr. Sun, I don't see any reason for merger.
- I'm not optimistic about obtaining any formal copyright approvals for high resolution images; I've never had success with that before. You can use low resolution screenshots to illustrate an article under "fair use", but there needs to be a specific discussion in the article that refers to the image. I did this for 3 images in the present article. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 01:32, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
"I'm not optimistic about obtaining any formal copyright approvals..."
You're probably right.- I do want to thank you for your most excellent improvements to this article. This science series was influential to a generation, so these articles deserve some attention. And since your imporvements have been my inspiration, I'm hoping to keep working on them although my enthusiasm often dies quickly. If you'd like to join in on any of the articles, you are most welcome. Your restructuring of this article has made it much more useful and informative, so if you'd like to lend your magic touch to any of content I add, it would very much appreciated. Best regards. 64.40.54.30 (talk) 19:16, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for the compliment. I don't think that I'll work much on the individual film articles myself, but I do think it important that the history and impact of the individual films be better documented. As you can see in the present article, from your work I've already picked up a tidbit about Hurtz that apparently explains why Capra switched from UPA to Culhane for the animation after Our Mr. Sun. That had been puzzling me. Best, Easchiff (talk) 22:24, 15 May 2012 (UTC) PS If you'd like to read Gilbert's article, which is very good on Our Mr. Sun, try this link to google: http://books.google.com/books?id=tIEGBimKQSwC&pg=PA199 .
- Thank you kindly for the link. I must admit that I enjoy reading far more than writing. Your additions to this article are always substantial and I look forward to reading them each day. I started Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Strange Case of the Cosmic Rays several hours ago and I've only written a paragraph because I keep coming across interesting stuff to read. :/ Oh well, there's no deadline as they say. All the best. 64.40.54.30 (talk) 03:58, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
